What's in the Paycheck Budget Spreadsheet

Budget by paycheck

Weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly or monthly pay becomes one real monthly budget. Give every dollar a job until Left to assign reads zero.

Which paycheck pays which bill

Enter a bill's due day once and it tells you which paycheck covers it.

Debt snowball or avalanche

Choose a strategy from a dropdown, add whatever extra you can afford, and it plays the whole plan forward month by month for ten years.

Your debt-free month

See the month you're debt free and the total interest you'll pay. Flip the dropdown to the other strategy and both figures update.

Subscriptions, counted honestly

Yearly subscriptions show as a real monthly cost, with the amount you've marked to cancel.

Savings goals

Sinking funds with a target, saved so far, months left and the amount needed per month.

Net worth

Assets and liabilities, with every debt pulled in automatically from the Debts tab.

Dashboard + category summary

Five cards: take-home, left to assign, total debt, months to debt free and net worth. Plus budget against actual spending for every category.

How it works

  1. Budget by paycheck tab: pay frequency and take-home per paycheck turned into a monthly take-home, with every category shown per month, per paycheck and as a percent of take-home
    Set your paycheck

Pick how often you're paid and enter your take-home. It does the monthly math for you.

  2. Bill tracker tab showing which paycheck pays each bill from its due day, with auto pay and status for every bill
    List your bills

Enter each bill's due day once and it tells you which paycheck covers it.

  3. Debt snowball and debt avalanche order for 12 debts, with balance, APR, minimum payment and monthly interest for each one
    Add your debts

Enter each balance, APR and minimum, then choose Snowball or Avalanche.

Watch the how-to

See how to set up and use the Paycheck Budget Spreadsheet.

Plus the free 9-page how-to PDF guide comes with your purchase.

What it does that most budget sheets don't

  • Every cleared minimum rolls onto the next debt, so your total payment never shrinks
  • Warns you when a minimum payment is at or below that debt's monthly interest
  • Says Over 120 months rather than printing a payoff date it can't stand behind
  • Room for 24 budget categories, 60 paydays, 40 bills, 25 subscriptions, 300 spending entries, 12 debts and 20 savings goals

What you get, how you get it and what you need

What you get

  • One .xlsx workbook with 13 linked tabs
  • The free 9-page how-to PDF guide, with real screenshots of each tab
  • A one-time purchase, no subscription

How you get it

  • Buy direct: right after you pay, you land on your download page with the spreadsheet and the guide.
  • On Etsy: open Purchases in a web browser and click Download Files. The Etsy phone app can't download files.
  • Open it in Excel, or upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets. The guide shows each step.

What you need

  • Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, Google Sheets or LibreOffice Calc
  • No add-ons and no macros. Nothing to install.

Good to know

  • In Excel the formulas are locked and only the input cells accept typing. Google Sheets removes that protection when it imports the file, so every cell is editable there.
  • Every total counts the rows in the file. A row typed below the last one isn't counted.
  • The payoff plan runs 120 months. Past that it says Over 120 months instead of guessing a date.
  • It's a digital download: the spreadsheet and the guide PDF. Nothing is shipped.

Questions

Can I budget every two weeks?

Yes. Pick weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly or monthly pay and it turns it into a real monthly budget.

Can I compare snowball and avalanche?

Yes. Choose one from the dropdown, then flip it to the other. The debt-free month and the total interest update in a second, so you can see which one saves you more.

How many debts can I add?

Up to 12 debts, with a 120-month payoff plan.

Do I fill in the Dashboard?

No. The Dashboard pulls every figure from the tabs before it. There's nothing to fill in on it.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. It works in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, Google Sheets and LibreOffice Calc. Google Sheets removes the formula protection on import, so every cell is editable there.

How do I get it after I buy?

Buy direct and you land on your download page right after you pay, with the spreadsheet and the free how-to PDF guide. On Etsy, open Purchases in a web browser and click Download Files.

Can I try it before I buy?
